Myopia

Animation about Myopia

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is the most common condition we can cure permanently with our VISX S4 IR laser.  One of our MDs will take a CustomVue WaveScan of each of your eyes, which will be saved into a special FlashDrive, inserted into the laser, and used to drive your customized treatment.  Dr. Chynn can thus correct your prescription 25x more accurately than in glasses or contacts, because the CustomVue treatment will shoot your prescription accurate to the nearest 0.01 D (not +/- 0.25 D, like with contacts or glasses)!  Thus, Dr. Chynn is making over 50% of his patients see BETTER than 20/20 after their CustomVue WaveFront No-Cut, No-Flap, All-Laser LASEK or epi-LASEK!

Astigmatism

Animation about Astigmatism

One of the most common misconceptions is that we cannot correct astigmatism.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Dr. Chynn was the 1st laser surgeon in NYC to have the procedure himself (in 1999), and he had astigmatism then, and that was fully corrected--over a decade ago.  So we can certainly fix your astigmatism with the laser (it's just programmed to shoot in an oval pattern rather than a circular one) so you will be seeing clearly afterwards for life--just like Dr. Chynn himself!

Hyperopia

Another common misconception is that we cannot fix hyperopia, or farsightedness. The FDA has approved the treatment of farsightedness over 10 years ago, and the treatable parameters are constantly being increased by FDA as they get more and more data showing the great outcomes by VISX in treating farsightedness. So don't worry--again, all we do is program the laser to shoot in a "doughnut" pattern (rather than a circle) to "laser off" your hyperopic prescription, and make you see clearly forever!

Presbyopia

Animation about Presbyopia

100% of people will eventually become presbyopic, or need reading glasses, if they live to be past 45 years old.  Everybody loses their ability to focus at near with age (it's like your eye going from a "zoom" lens to a single-focus lens).  This means you will either need reading glasses, bifocals, trifocals, smooth progressive lenses, or to take your distance  glasses off to see up-close.  Dr. Chynn is in his 40s, so he would also be starting to need reading glasses--if he did not have laser vision correction with MonoVision.  With MonoVision we can correct BOTH your need for distance glasses, as well as eliminate your need for reading glasses or bifocals!  So COME ON IN and let us SHOW YOU EXACTLY how well you will see after MonoVision.  We are sure you will like it and decide to go ahead once you see exactly how you will see afterwards!:)

LASIK

Animation about LASIK

Please understand that Dr. Chynn STOPPED PERFORMING THE CUTTING LASIK PROCEDURE IN 2003 because the NONCUTTING procedures he exclusively performs now is TEN TIMES SAFER.  This is not a matter of "opinion"--it is a FACT.  If you look on the internet at all LASIK complications, you will see that over 90% are related the flap--either cutting it in incompletely, putting back wrong with wrinkles, leaving debris or having inflammation under the flap, getting hit later and having the flap come up, etc.  With the NON-CUTTING, No-FLAP, All-Laser LASEK and epi-LASEK that Dr. Chynn performs, the chance of a flap complication is ZERO--because there IS NO FLAP!

"blade-free" LASIK

Animation about Bladeless LASIK

Again, Dr. Chynn does NOT perform IntraLase, because this STILL INVOLVES CUTTING A FLAP (although with a laser), so ALL of the problems and complications of cutting a flap (some of which are listed above) can STILL HAPPEN (although with a slightly lower frequency than in standard LASIK).  The ONLY way you can TOTALLY ELIMINATE ALL FLAP COMPLCATIONS is to NOT CUT THE FLAP IN THE FIRST PLACE, which is why Park Avenue Laser is not just "blade free" but--more importantly--CUT FREE and FLAP FREE!:)  The only reason we are showing you "i-LASIK" is so that you can understand that this is still a cutting procedure, and therefore NOT the safest--as you can't eliminate flap complications if you are still cutting flaps!.
