Mom Refers Daughter for Laser Surgery
June 18, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Hi Dr. Chynn,
I am writing to you about coming observe a procedure at Park Avenue Laser Vision, and learn more about the surgery.
I was referred by my mother, Mary Anne M. (from the Village of Ocean Beach) and am very interested in learning more about the
procedure. My mother mentioned you had procedures on both 6/20 and 6/27 from5-6:30, and I would be able to come to either of these sessions. She also mentioned that there are a few preparatory conditions (not wearing contacts, eye drops, etc) before coming to a session, and was wondering if you could give me more specifics on these and for how long they need to be done.
I am very excited about this and looking forward to hearing from you.
Tina M. M.

Nice hearing from you. Yes, I remember speaking to your mother, and we would love it if you could attend our live laser seminars coming up.
Please visit our website below so you learn about the safer, more advanced non-cutting technique we perform here, then call my office at the # below with your numbers and to RSVP for the seminar.
It’s good you already know what to do preop, as that gives me a great deal of confidence that you will take this seriously, and follow all your directions to the letter–so I can do my job and make you 20/20–or better–for the rest of your life!:)

Monovision, and LASEK vs. LASIK recommendation
June 16, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Gary,
Dr. Emil Chynn at Park Avenue Laser was my eye surgeon. They do free consultation and are happy to answer any questions about the procedure, costs, etc. I copied them on this e-mail. I had very little pain with the procedure and don’t have “halos” or night vision problems like a lot of Lasik patients have complained about. My recommendation is to get the mono-vision option so that you can read without glasses (at least until you’re 60).
Edward L., Standard & Poor’s
Hi Ed and Gary
Thanks for the referral, Ed
Gary, the reason our patients don’t have glare and halos at night afterwards, like many LASIK patients do (including myself), is because we don’t do LASIK anymore
Instead, i only do LASEK or epiLASEK, which does NOT involve cutting a flap, so when your pupil dilates at night, there is no flap edge to see, which is the reason I (having had the older LASIK procedure) have halos at night
We also do CustomVue, which also eliminates this problem–visit www.PersonalBestVision.com for more about this
Please call my office to RSVP to attend our upcoming live laser seminar on either June 20 or June 27, or to book your free consultation with us, where we will explain everything.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!

LASEK Specialization and Experience
June 11, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I am actually looking to do my eyes with Dr. R.C., who seems expensive but experienced. Did he train you? What are your thoughts about him performance and outcomes? What of this procedure you mention other/better than LASIK?
I have done thousands more laser vision correction cases than R.C. I perform LASEK and epi-LASEK, which are the more advanced, safer, noncutting procedures, whereas he only performs the older, cutting LASIK (which I stopped doing years ago) and does not do enough volume to own his own laser (I do about 1,000 cases a year, so I own my own laser). Therefore, he has to “rent out” someone else’s laser to do his cases on. Read more

Hi Chynn,
I have completed my consultation reg the lasek correction on Monday. I have a question on this.
What’s the diffrence between LASEK AND PRK, which is better?
Thanks,
Srinivasa
——————————–
Srinivasa,
PRK is an old procedure that i was performing in the 1990s, and stopped performing in 1998. any doctor still performing PRK is, by definition, out of date, as that is a retired procedure
LASEK and epi-LASEK have replaced PRK because they have many advantages, including
1 quicker healing, and thus
2. decreased pain, and also
3. decreased chance of infection because quicker healing, and
4. decreased chance of scarring, because quicker healing

Testimonial - The Procedure was over quickly and I didn’t feeel a thing
June 10, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I had LASEK on both of my eyes at Park Avenue Laser Vision and I love it! All of my worries and concerns were put to rest–Dr. Chynn has done this 10,000 times with a perfect track record, and his staff was very helpful and comforting. The entire procedure was over really quickly and I didn’t feel a thing. My sister came with me for my surgery, and is getting her eyes done just one week after I did, once she saw how easy it was. She is also now very happy that she had it done; it’s been life changing for her because she has high myopia. For her, it’s about waking up every morning and being able to see the clock clearly. For me, it’s about being able to play volleyball, go to the gym, go clubbing and do everything else in my life without having to squint through dry contact lenses. This was the easiest decision I’ve ever made! I highly recommend every one even thinking of doing it to just get evaluated and educate themselves on the procedure. The risks are so low these days that I think the concerns people usually have about LASEK don’t even exist anymore. There’s really no need to wait when you can be seeing through new eyes!

Patients Concerns on Long Term Risks
June 4, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Dr Chynn,
After doing more research on the procedure, I have decided to not have my eyes done. Although the risk is low for complications and I have every confidence your staff would do an excellent job, I do not want to take even this small risk for a purely elective surgery. Also, it is impossible to access long term risk since the procedure has a history of only about ten years.
Best,
Rick

#1 there is a 20 year history not 10 year in the
#2 there are no “long-term” complications so patients who see well at 5 years will see well at 10, 20, 30, etc
#3 all we are doing is removing tissue, so it’s like a nose job–if it looks good at 1 year, it will look good forever, that tissue cannot “come back”
#4 studies have shown that using contacts is MORE RISKY in the long-term than getting lasered

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 12 years old, and contacts since i was 18. I got tired of always having to put in my contacts in the morning and the irritation they caused me throughout the day. I finally decided to get Lasek eye surgery which was the best decision of my life. Now I wake up in the morning and can see clearly. It’s amazing to think that in just a few minutes my vision I was able to have 20/20 vision. I work as a medical examiner investigator and having to be at crime scenes, and doing death investigation wearing glasses was always a hassle. Now that I have corrected vision I don’t have to worry about hazardous material getting stuck in my contacts, or having my glasses fall off at a scene. Now that my vision is perfect my life is so much easier, and to think I waited as long as did seems crazy. I chose to come to Dr. Chynn because of his perfect track record. While doing research online I found him to be the best doctor for what I was looking for. His non-cutting technique made me feel safer having this procedure. I knew that my eyes were in safe hands.

Questions of WaveScan and Monovision
June 1, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Dr Chynn,
I have set my surgery date and am very excited. I am having custom vue WaveScan and Lasek in both eyes and Mono Vision in my left eye. I’m a little confused, I know my left eye will be corrected to see well for reading with the Mono Vision. I just want to make sure I understand this clearly. Does Mono Vision mean the eye correction is done totally for reading, and my right eye is corrected for distance and reading with the Lasek? Is Monovision only for reading? How does the laser follow the Wave Scan for Mono Vision?
