Eye Surgery Inquiry answered by Dr. Chynn

Greeting: Matthew
Comment: I have astigmatism in both eyes and am interested in doing corrective eye surgery. I compete in full contact martial arts and want to know how long the healing process takes…basically when could I get back in training? Thanks for your help.

Hi Matt,
with full contact martial arts, it’s not safe for you to get LASIK, which is the older cutting procedure, as your flap can come up if you get hit–I’ve seen this and it’s not pretty. i only do no-flap LASEK and EPI-LASEK so there is no flap to come up–this is what you need done, for safety reasons. We can also correct your astigmatism at the same time. you could workout a few days after, light spar a week after, and full spar with contact 2 weeks afterwards.

We lasered a guy who is a semi-professional boxer last month, i actually saw him at the Friday night fights at the armory afterwards and he is doing perfectly well. Please call my office and make an appointment to come in for your free consultation, and when you come in ask Vanessa at the front desk for his contact info and you can speak to him:)

Don’t worry, you chose the right MD to laser you, as you need the no-cut, no-flap procedure for safety reasons, and I am by far the #1 guy in NYC for this type of procedure.
Hope to see you soon!:) we also have live laser seminars June 20 and 27 where you can watch a procedure, have your eyes tested, speak to patients who have had the procedure, and attend a Q+A session–please call to RSVP for that, too!
Yours,
Emil William Chynn, MD FACS MBA
