Questions of WaveScan and Monovision

Dr Chynn,

I have set my surgery date and am very excited. I am having custom vue WaveScan and Lasek in both eyes and Mono Vision in my left eye. I’m a little confused, I know my left eye will be corrected to see well for reading with the Mono Vision. I just want to make sure I understand this clearly. Does Mono Vision mean the eye correction is done totally for reading, and my right eye is corrected for distance and reading with the Lasek? Is Monovision only for reading? How does the laser follow the Wave Scan for Mono Vision?

Katrina

Hi Katrina,

Monovision means your nondominant left eye is corrected for both distance and near, but more for near, and your dominant right for both, but more for far, so with both open both eyes work at both distances, but the right more for far, the left more for near–don’t worry about it it is confusing but the end result is you will see well for both near and far with both eyes open and no confusion or imbalance after a week!:)

yours,
Emil William Chynn, MD FACS MBA
