Patient with Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPC) concerns
Tiffany B. writes:
I am seeking laser vision correction because I have been diagnosed twice with giant papillary conjunctivitis in the last three years (most recently one month ago - I’ve been told this last time, it was not a bad case at all) and am afraid that this is the start of me not being able to wear contacts anymore. I am a very careful lens wearer - I clean them carefully and thoroughly, recently switched to products with no preservatives and always replace my lenses on time, but it doesn’t seem to help. I know that I need to be examined in order to see if I am a candidate for the surgery, but would having GPC in the past be something that would prevent me from potentially having the surgery?
In addition, I can’t stand my glasses! I usually have a headache while wearing them and feel the slightest bit dizzy if they are not in exactly the right position on my nose.
Medical Insurance: now CIGNA, will switch to GHI in the fall through CUNY.
No other concerns, other than hoping it goes well! My husband John had his surgery performed by Dr. Chynn earlier this year and all has gone well for him. I hope the same for me!
Dr. Chynn replies:
Patients with recurrent GPC SHOULD NOT WEAR CONTACTS, as they will eventually damage and scar their eyes–they need to have laser vision correction (or just wear glasses).
You should come in NOW and have your surgery at the end of August / beginning of September as we can give you a DOUBLE INSURANCE DISCOUNT as I take both, so you will save twice as much!
