Park Avenue Laser Vision performs surgery on the creator of NY’s only laser surgery simulator

Dr. Emil Chynn of the Park Avenue Laser Vision (PALV) Center is the first Lasik surgeon to introduce an on-line laser surgery simulator to help patients experience the sights and sounds of the actual operation before they actual undergo surgery.  Park Avenue Laser Vision is the only laser eye center in New York to feature this ground breaking simulation of the actual eye laser procedure.

Emil William Chynn, MD, MBA, FACS, wanted to develop a tool to ease potential patients’ fears by giving them the chance to practice the procedure several times before coming in to the center on their own surgery day.    “I want the best visual outcome for all my patients.  This happens when patients are comfortable and relaxed under the laser.  When patients experience this kind of visual and audio simulation prior to surgery, they know what to expect and can relax when lying under the laser in the actual operating room,” said Dr. Chynn.

Frederick Sanders, Chief Creative Officer of Studio KA, created the online simulator under the direction of Dr. Chynn.  Mr. Sanders has been interested in getting laser eye surgery for many years to correct his extremely high myopia.  Dr. Chynn will perform Frederick Sanders’ no-cut, no-flap, all-laser LASEK surgery during an open-to-the-public seminar on October 8, 2008 at Park Avenue Laser Vision in Manhattan.

Frederick Sanders will give a demonstration of the new laser surgery simulator to the public before he goes into the operating room and narrate the process himself.  The main reason why he helped Dr. Chynn to develop this simulator was to help remove the trepidation associated with the laser surgery itself.  According to Sanders, “I created this simulator for Dr. Chynn to show that there will be no cut involved in the process and that the laser does not touch your eyes when reshaping the cornea. I added an audio soundtrack of an actual procedure so the patient will be prepared for the sights and sound of the actual surgery,” said Sanders.
