Dr. Chynn donates to charity

Dear Rocky:

Nice meeting you at the AAARI dinner last night.  Thanks for sharing your art’s initiative benefit with me.  As we discussed, it is too late for me to donate to your upcoming event as there will be insufficient time for preparation/promotion.  However, please contact me 2 months in advance of your next benefit in the spring.  As I mentioned, I donate 1 free LASEK no-cut, no-flap laser vision correction each month to a worthy charity for a raffle or to auction off as a fundraiser.  The free LASEK is worth $4000 (this is what I charge for it), so the charities always raise between $2000 - $5000 from this one donation.  For example, in the last 2 months I donated 2 LASEKS to 2 different charities.  In September, for 9/11, I donated 1 LASEK to a 9/11 fund.   We raised $2500 in 1 hour at a silent auction.  In October, I donated 1 LASEK to the Obama campaign and
they raised $3000 in 1 day in a raffle.  So, you can see that your organization can raise several THOUSAND dollars in 1 HOUR OR 1 DAY if you properly organize a raffle or auction.

For “richer” attendees, I suggest an auction (the woman buying the laser at auction was at an event for investment bankers).  For “regular people I suggest a raffle (we sold 300 tickets for $100 each).  I also donated to the Mt. Sinai Medical Students Fund a year ago, they put up a website where they charged $10 for each raffle coupon.  They sold 200 tickets in 1 month and raised $2000.  They could have sold 400 tickets in 2 months and raised $4000 but didn’t do it early enough.  In any case, I assure you, with proper time and preparation and strategy NO organization raises less than $2000 and some have raised as much as $5000 on this single donation item.

Why? Because EVERYONE in glasses and contacts now would eagerly pay $10 for the chance of getting rid of their glasses and contacts FOR LIFE!:)  Anyway, if you or another charitable organization (must be IRS recognized as tax-exempt) wants to do this CONTACT ME AT MY WORK # WELL IN ADVANCE OF YOUR NEXT FUNDRAISER and by well in advance, we mean TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE so we have enough time do proper prepromo to raise >$2k.

Please note (NB):  It COSTS me $1000 to do this case in cash (mostly laser royalty fee of $450 per eye), so I will NOT donate to any org that does insufficient promo as in that case, it would be easier for me just to cut them a check for $1000.  The REASON I donate LASEKs instead of cash, is I can donate a procedure that costs me $1000 per month ($12k/yr) and they can raise $36,000 per year (I can’t afford to donate that much).  Again, I have raised about $100,000 over the years doing this for many charities, so trust me–I do know what I am doing.

Hope this helps and hope to speak to you soon.

Thanks!

Yours,

Emil William Chynn, MD FACS MBA
