How Does Age Effect LASEK - How Young?
Q: I’m hoping to get Lasik at some point in 2010. I’ve heard that your contact/glasses prescription must stay the same for 2 years before you get Lasik, to make sure your eyes aren’t changing. Is this the case? Can the procedure be performed again at a later date if your eyes change? I’m 22 years old, how does age affect laser eye correction?
A: FDA requires that your Rx does not change by more than 0.50 diopters per year, which is considered stable by FDA. This is why FDA recommends patients to be over 18, as before then the Rx is usually not stable (but sometimes is, so this is a rule-of-thumb, not a hard and fast rule). Based on your age, we would overcorrect you so you wouldn’t need to be enhanced. Just ask me or one of my MDs more about this when you come in, OK?
Q: Also, I’m in school and I have to consider my work and school schedules. Could I have the surgery on a Monday and be back in school the next day?
A: No, the recovery is more lengthy, you could have the noncutting LASEK on a Th PM, come in Fri for your 1-day postop, then come in Monday for your BCL removal, then go back to work Mon PM for 1/2 a day, and Tue for a full day. So you would have to miss 1-1/2 days of work, which is not too bad, and we can give you a doctor’s note for this, or you can do it over a long wknd (like NYE wknd, for ex).
Q: I don’t see the price/eye anywhere on the site. I noticed that the pricing is not based on your prescription, on the pricing page, but I can’t seem to find the price itself.
A: That’s because you are supposed to come in for your free consult, we explain the different options we recommend after examining your eyes to determine what’s best for your eyes and needs. It makes no sense to quote price before you are examined. So please call for your free consult appointment.
