CustomVue is OK - But LASEK is Much Safer

Q: I am considering CustomVue LASIK, is it safe?

A: You seem to have done some research, as you are requesting CustomVue, which is really the way to go in terms of making your vision as clear as possible

You also are requesting Intralase, which makes me think you are interested in safety, and have heard that intralase is safer. this is true but only partially–Intralase still cuts your cornea in half with a flap, but does so with a laser instead of a metal blade, so is about 30% safer–in other words, 30% of the problems you encounter with a metal blade are eliminated with Intralase.

In contrast, we stopped doing LASIK 5 years ago, and intralase 4 years ago, because i decided to eliminate 100% of all flap-related complications the only way possible–by not cutting a flap in the first place! in our more advanced, noncutting LASEK procedure, you can’t ever have a flap-related complication, as we are not cutting into your cornea at all in the first place!
