Will I need Reading Glasses if I get LASEK as I get Older?

Q: I wear glasses all the time. I am nearsighted with -5.50 in both eyes. If I don’t get eye surgery is there a chance that when I get older that I won’t have any problem seeing at reading distance? I am concerned that if I have surgery I will definitely need reading glasses as I age. However, if I don’t get surgery I’ll always need glasses but I will not need to get bifocals at any time. Is this correct to any degree?

A: No, you are not correct

Whether you get the surgery or not, you are going to need help reading, like you’re going to need bifocals.

In contrast, if you do LASEK, you should get MonoVision - ReadingVizion(TM), then you won’t need readers even when you’re 50.
